Join the Fillwise Closed Alpha

Fillwise is in a closed test on Google Play before its public release. You get the app from the Play Store like any other app, plus every update as it ships. It takes about five minutes.

Before you start

  • An Android phone running Android 8.0 or newer.
  • A Google account: the one signed in to the Play Store on that phone.
  • A Play Store account in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, or New Zealand. The test isn't available in other countries yet.
  1. Join the tester Google Group

Open the Fillwise Closed Alpha group and select Join group. Google Play uses this group to decide who can install the test, so join with the same Google account your phone's Play Store uses.

    Open the Google Group groups.google.com/g/fillwise-closed-test
  2. Opt in on Google Play

Open the testing page, signed in with that same account, and select Become a tester.

    Open the testing page play.google.com/apps/testing/app.fillwise
  3. Install Fillwise

Install it from the Play Store on your phone. If Play says the app isn't available, give it a few minutes after opting in and try again.

  4. Use it for real

Add your car and log each fill-up as you go. Real fill-ups from real cars are the most useful thing you can give the test.

What we ask

  • Stay in for at least 14 days. Google Play only lets an app launch publicly after at least 12 testers have stayed opted in for 14 days in a row. If too many people leave early, those 14 days start over.
  • Log your real fill-ups. Two weeks is enough to try logging and service tracking. Mileage alerts need several tanks of history, so stay longer if you can.
  • Tell us what breaks. Email support@fillwise.app with bugs, confusing screens, or anything you'd change.

What you get

  • Premium, free. Fillwise will have a premium tier. Everyone in the Closed Alpha gets it free when it launches.
  • Every update first. New builds reach the test before anyone else.
  • A direct line. Your email goes to the person who builds the app.

Questions

The Play Store says the app isn't available.

Almost always an account mismatch. The Google account in the Play Store must be the one that joined the group and opted in. If your phone has more than one account, tap your profile picture in the Play Store and switch. Then open the testing page again, and allow a few minutes after opting in before you retry the install.

Does joining share any of my data?

Joining the Google Group shares your Google account's email address with the group's owner; that's how Google Play knows you're a tester. The app itself collects nothing: no account, no analytics, and no network permission. See the privacy policy.

Does it cost anything?

No. The alpha is free, and testers get premium free when it launches.

Will my data carry over when Fillwise launches?

The alpha is the same app on Google Play, and the public release arrives as an update. Your entries stay on your phone through updates.

Is there an iPhone version?

Not yet. Fillwise is Android only for now.

How do I leave the test?

Open the testing page and select Leave the program, then uninstall the app if you want. Please stay for at least 14 days if you can.
