Fillwise privacy policy
Effective October 3, 2026
This policy covers the Fillwise app for Android. Fillwise is developed by Richard Knepp. If you have a question about privacy, email support@fillwise.app.
The short version
Fillwise keeps what you enter on your phone. It has no account, no ads, no analytics, and no access to the internet: the app does not request Android's network permission, so it cannot send your data anywhere. We never receive the information you put in it.
What the app stores on your phone
What you enter, plus figures the app works out from it (such as your normal fuel economy when you answer an alert):
- Vehicles: a name, and if you choose to add them, year, make, model, engine, VIN, tank size, EPA ratings, units, and currency.
- Fill-ups: date, odometer reading, amount of fuel, price and total, whether the tank was filled, and optionally the station, octane, and a note.
- Service items and records: the item name and interval, and for each record the date, odometer, description, cost, shop, and a note.
- Your answers to mileage alerts, such as the reason you give and an optional note.
- Your choice of fuel economy unit.
This is kept in the app's private storage on your device, which other apps cannot read. Fillwise does not access your location, contacts, camera, photos, or files, and it does not ask for any permission that would let it.
What we collect and share
Nothing. The app does not collect personal data, does not share data with anyone, and contains no advertising, analytics, or crash-reporting code.
Android backup and moving to a new phone
If you have turned on backup in your phone's settings, Android may include Fillwise's data in your device backup, which Google stores in your Google Account. This is done by Android and Google under Google's privacy policy, not by Fillwise, and we cannot see or access these backups. On Android 9 and later, the backup is end-to-end encrypted when your phone has a PIN, pattern, or password. When you set up a new phone and copy data from your old one, Fillwise's data can be copied across the same way.
This is what lets your records survive a lost or replaced phone. If you do not want it, turn off backup in your phone's settings (often under Google > Backup; the location varies by phone). You can see and delete existing device backups in Google Drive or Google One.
Crash reports from Google Play
If you have chosen to share usage and diagnostics data with Google, Google Play may give us crash and performance reports for Fillwise. Google produces these reports, not the app. They contain technical details such as the phone model, Android version, and where in the code a crash happened.
How long data is kept, and how to delete it
Your data stays on your phone until you remove it. When you delete a vehicle, fill-up, service item, or service record, it disappears from the app, but the app's database keeps the entry, marked as deleted. To erase all Fillwise data from your phone, clear the app's storage (Settings > Apps > Fillwise > Storage > Clear storage, or similar on your phone) or uninstall the app. Because we hold no copy of your data, there is nothing for us to delete on our side.
Security
Fillwise relies on Android's protections: each app's private storage is walled off from other apps, and your phone encrypts its storage when it has a screen lock. The app does not add its own encryption on top. Use a screen lock to protect your data and your backups.
Children
Fillwise is not directed at children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If a future version of Fillwise handles data differently, we will update this policy before that version is released and change the effective date above.
